1. What big ideas did you learn from uncovering YOUR personal art history?
I learned that I have a true passion for doodling. Starting from a very early stage I learned that doodles and scribbles allow opportunities for beautiful images to appear. I also realized that I digressed when art became a requirement and had to include certain attributes for it to be considered "successful". This was a hard concept for me to wrap my head around, resulting in little to no art involvement in High School.
2. What was the pivotal point of your stages that you found your career desire? How did you know?
To be honest, the pivotal point in the stage that I found my personal career desire was during the period of decision whenever I created my tennis player. It wasn't until I came to college that I was given the opportunity to create in three dimensional form which is the natural way I create things. I realized when making the tennis player that creating sculptural objects was something I could potentially pursue because it felt so natural for me. I had always joked with my mom about moving to California and being a hippie who creates art for a living.... as you could imagine, she wasn't too thrilled about that idea. Thus, when coming to college I knew I wanted to keep the creative thrill for the rest of my life, but just wasn't exact on the profession I would best be suited in.
3. Tell us how this project helped you learn about artistic development stages
This project helped me learn that the basic motor skills are SO important to have any artistic development! Therefore, not developing them at a younger age could create mounds of frustration as the child gets older, especially when dealing with such a hands on subject such as art. I realized that at pseudo-naturalistic age is when kids tend to decide whether they like art or not. I remember, that this was the year that I had worked the hardest on all my projects and even the least bit of criticism about my art would make me want to throw my artwork away. I believe that it's important to keep a close eye on my art students at this time because discouragement should never be enticed by any students' artwork.
